Urgent Prayer Request

I chatted with Withly Desamour (in Haiti) this afternoon. He told me that his family on the Plateau was attacked by bandits. The bandits burned their house down and burned a couple of his brothers and sisters. The family is left with no clothes or food. Seven of his family members were able to get a ride to Port-Au-Prince to live with Withly. Therefore, there are now 8 people living in the small room that Withly rents. The only source of income the family has (had) is to make charcoal to sell. Now they have nothing, and need medical attention, and have no way to support themselves.

Studies in Torah: March 3, 2009

Our study text for this week is Deuteronomy 12:29-17:20 (NKJV).

After reading through all of the text, go back and make logical sections, and identify each section with a descriptive name. I think it would be good if read the text in The Message and the ESV as well to get a better feel for the flow of the “story”.

If you have not already started on a “read the bible through in a year” program, I would suggest you give a look at the ESV program. Ruth and I listen to the passages from the OT, Psalms & Proverbs, and the NT each morning over breakfast. We love it! Try it here.

Anouncement: March will be a little different

I have my class schedule for Oxford Graduate School. I decided to take Core 1&2 back to back, which meant I would have to stay on campus March 9-13. The return to campus on Monday 16 for that week. Classes from from 8:00am-8:00pm everyday. I get a 10 minute break mid morning, 35-40 minute break for lunch, a 15 minutes afternoon break, and a dinner break for 1 hour.

How in the world will I be able to keep up that pace Lord? This past Friday I got my answer; now I am signed up for an additional 2 weeks!!! Not what I had in mind, but if I can survive, I will be able to finish my masters in 3 or 4 months, and have some credits for my doctorate.

Inasmuch as I will be living on campus for most of the month of March, I (we) need your prayers for both strength, and provisions. I won’t be able to do my normal billable work. So, we are trusting God to get us through this coming month on just my social security. Please that I will be able to take some time to stretch, and lay down for rest during the day, and stay strong throughout the day. Also, please pray for Ruth. We are not use to being apart.

I am in the process of lining up teachers to take my place on Tuesday’s while I am gone. Remember, we can always keep in touch by using our Sola ScripturaSociety social network. I will post the assignment for March 3 and 10, but my standin will post his own material. I encourage you to study hard and make it enjoyable for the interim teacher.

We will talk more of this on Tuesday (March 3).

Our study text for tomorrow is Deutoronomy 12-13. Please read MacArthur’s notes refering to this text.

The phrase “every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes” appears in chapter 12, appears in another context in the Old Testament. Where? How was the phrase used in the other text?

How would the American Church be affected by the law outlined in chapter 13?

I just got a call asking us to pray for the safety, health and well being of a 3 year old boy named Colby. This is a very serious matter. Decisions will be made tomorrow. Pray for Gods’ intervention.

Studies in Torah: February 3rd – The Story Continues

This week we will be discussing Duet 7-8

In these chapters we see (grandpa) Moses continuing the story of God’s plan for the Holy nation of Israel, as he shares with them the promises, purposes, and warnings to the this infant nation. As you read, please takes notes of each of these and, once again, compare the content of this part of the story to the original promises and warnings given to the parents, and grandparents of the people now poised to cross the Jordon River to start the conquest of the Promised Land.

It might be helpful to read these chapters from the Message as well. I think it will help you clearly identify the directions given by Moses.

Pray for Carlos

Just in case you didn’t get the e-mail message from Carlos, I am posting it here so we will all be remembering to pray for him.

Hello All Sola Members,

I Hope and Pray all is well with you all and your families. I wanted to let you know (I have already seen and spoken to Brian and Russell during church today, which is great because I couldn’t even make it to church last week.) Although I am “getting around” better and without as much pain (still “learning” to use the cane), it turns out I have a really “full” schedule this coming Tuesday. Two Doctors’ appointments, made months in advance, are part of this schedule, which I cannot (should not) change. Besides I’m also working on getting a referral to an Orthopedist (for my foot, because I think something is “really wrong”). To make an already long story short, I’m leaning towards “skipping” class Tuesday. The “real” problem is that it is just a little too long a “walk”, between where I can park the car and the classroom, especially with my “condition” (Michael, I really “feel” for you). I am keeping up with the reading though, so I’ll be “caught up”.

I really miss seeing you guys, though. There is never any making up for that. Thank you for your prayers and concern for my well being. I truly need, and “feel” you.

BTW: If you can’t make the walk from your parking place to the building, just give me a call from your car, and I will pick you up and drive you to the door. Yes, door to door service…it doesn’t get much better than that.

Also, if you need to borrow my high speed walker, I would be happy to let you use it.

Studies in Torah: Deuteronomy Part 2

This week we will look at the “review” of the 10 Commandments given by Moses in Deuteronomy 5-6

Please read these chapter before class, and listen to them if possible. In our discussion tomorrow, we will be looking for the similarities and dissimilarities between the law as recorded in Exodus 20-23 and these chapters in Deuteronomy.
